Spring Break 2012

We just finishe our full and fun Spring Break.  Scott and I got a chance to go on a little getaway to the Little Apple.  He needed to meet with his professor to plan out what classes he needs to take for the next 4 years!  So I went along with him and we celebrated our Anniversary 3 months late.  We stayed at the Morningstar Bed and Breakfast and went to eat at a very fancy restaurant.  Think chandeliers and rack of lamb with a chocolate and cinnamon olive oil sauce.
Another highlight of the week was Scott got a new truck! We are a Toyota family now.  He got a Toyota Tacoma Prerunner. I didn't take any pictures of it.  It rained almost the entire week, so the truck was all muddy.  So now the big white truck needs to go and we are not buying another vehicle until one of them won't run anymore or won't be worth fixing.
We also cheered on the Jayhawks to the final four this week!  We are all Kansas school fans.  It doesn't matter if it's KU, KSU, PSU, ESU, WSU, we go for them all.
At the end of the week it cleared up so we headed outside to do some yard work.  We still had leaves to deal with, and the kids helped pick up trash.  Some of the trash was ours, but how did McDonalds wrappers, candy bar wrappers, and chips bags get there?  Oh yeah, it's pretty windy here sometimes!
Brooke had a good time in the sandbox.  Between the sand, drool, snot and hair in her eyes she looked pretty rough!
And look at all those bags of leaves.
Another thing we did was start growing some sunflowers and Zinnias.  I used some old egg cartons and let the kids plant and water the seeds.  (See previous post.) They sprouted in a couple of days and the kids check on them every few hours.  They change so fast!  Soon we will be able to plant them in our yard. The plan is for the sunflowers to grow along the back fence and the zinnias will help decorate the mailbox.

Bible Study

I signed Addison and Luke up to play soccer this spring.  This is the first time for them to do any sort of organized sport.  I think it will be hilarious.  They get to play on the same team, so that will be nice.  When I asked Luke if he wanted to play he screamed, "YYEEEAAAHHH!!" But when I asked Addison if she wanted to play she said, "Sure, but wait, will I have to miss bible study?"  I said, "no".  She said, "What about church?" "Nope."  What about AWANA or birthday parties?"  "No Addy, soccer is on Saturday morning so you won't miss any of that."  Then she said, "Ok, yeah I want to play."

Then today I was getting ready to go to bible study and she was telling me about how Julia is going to lead a bible study.  Addy had the chance to stay home with Scott since he is on Spring Break, but she did not want to miss bible study!  I hear that they are going to study Titus!  Julia is only 9 or 10 I think, but if there's any girl that can lead a bible study it would be her.  Julia's mom is leading the moms through a bible study on Hebrews that she wrote, so I guess it's natural that Julia would want to lead a bible study.  I think it's so neat that these little girls want to study the bible together while their moms study it together.

Truck hunting

The other day we took a quick trip to Lawrence because Scott wanted to look at a truck.  There's not really anything wrong with the truck we have except Scott is driving to Manhattan  now.  A big heavy duty 4 wheel drive truck isn't really necessary.  So he did some research and found one that gets double the gas mileage.  We went to Lawrence to check it out.  He dropped us off at a nearby park while he did some negotiating.  We didn't get that truck, but we had a good time at the park!
Brooke hardly looks like a baby anymore!

We had fun on the swings.
Luke went back and forth from swings to slide.  New parks are so cool!
Addy spent most of her time swinging.  She even found different ways to swing.
Later when we were at home, we planted some sunflower seeds.  Hopefully they will grow.  We want to plant them out by our back fence and the kids can watch them grow all summer.
Luke's not the only one who loves "shooter guns". I didn't get any video of her doing this, but imagine a deep, low, belly laugh with this face.
And here's the three munchkins in the caboose of their make believe train.  All of their stuffed animals have a seat too.  Brooke is already right in there playing with them.  She tried to climb up in the big wooden chair in the front, but Luke informed her that it was for the conductor and she needed to sit with him.

Showers and hunting.

Today was a fun Saturday.  We went out to mom and dad's house because there was a wedding shower for Rachelle.  It was great to see all my siblings and a few aunts.  Brooke provided extra entertainment while Rachelle was unwrapping gifts.  Amy brought her dog Brylee and Brooke would chase the dog and squeal.

Luke was eager to hunt some coyotes.  Scott took him out with his little plastic "shooter gun" and they went on their first hunting trip.  They didn't see anything to shoot.  Maybe next time :)

Squeals of Delight!

We had a small family birthday party for Luke.  One of his gifts was a Zhu Zhu pet.  Brooke went crazy over it.

Squat dance!

Brooke started dancing like this and I finally got some video of it.  I don't know where she got the idea, but it goes along with her crazy hair.  She pulls out her pony tail, but the hair keeps standing straight up.  She is a very talented baby.

Luke's Big Day!

A package came in the mail today with Luke's name on it.  His sisters were eager to see what was inside.

CANDY!

And a John Deere toolbelt, hat and glow in the dark book!  I think he kinda liked it!  Nana knows him well.

He couldn't wait to go outside to pretend to do some farming.  The funny thing is it snowed earlier this day.  There were big monster snowflakes falling from the sky.  They melted as they hit the ground because it was 70 degrees the day before. Then in the afternoon he was out without a coat and barefoot!

Later he had a friend come over for dinner and help him eat his cake.  Chocolate Oreo cake is very yummy!  It was a very fun day.  Addy helped pick out some green goggles for him as a gift.  Now we can't wait to go swimming again.  We just discovered the indoor heated therapeutic pool at ESU that's just the right depth for the kids.  I wish I would have realized it is open to the public sooner.  At lunch Scott came and picked up Luke and they went to eat at Braums.  Addy went along with them.  She told him that if he let her come then she would let him come when it was her birthday.  I guess they figured out that 2 birthdays are better than 1.  That night when we tucked Luke into bed he sighed and said, "That was a very good day."

Silliness

When mommy goes out and the kids stay home with daddy they have a lot of fun.  They got all dressed up to dance.  Addy thought Luke needed a tie.
Brooke wanted to try out the pink goggles before we went for a swim.
Brooke wasn't too fond of the water, but it was fun to play on the side!

The big kids had a great time and can't wait to go back.
